Search headings #
The Search headings tab allows retrieval and examination of records from the point of view of their headings, using both search and browse capability. The tab opens to this display:

Controls #
#
The search may be a keyword search, selecting the radio button ‘Word anywhere’, or a browse, selecting ‘Starts with’. Note that if you want to search, an asterisk (*) may be used as a truncation symbol.
#
Two command buttons are provided:
- This ‘onscreen return’ allows the simulation of a Return/Enter key by mouse action.
- The waste paper bin icon is used to clear the work input key box. Occasionally, the search key box may not be selectable by mouse, but clicking this icon will allow clearance, in readiness for entry of a new search key.
Checkboxes #
- Must Link to Works – Clicking the checkbox ‘Must link to works’ will ensure that the heading is associated with actual works, and is not just a reference.
- Inflectional – If this checkbox is ticked, Aurora will apply modifications to the search term to make it more ‘fuzzy’, by applying prefix and suffix modification, and allowing for plurals.
- Authorities only –
Heading type #
A pull-down combo menu provides options for the type of heading to search Options are:
- Anywhere – i.e. all headings
- all

Results #
The matching headings are displayed in the lower panel. No items are linked at this stage, as we are dealing with headings, rather than the works themselves. If a Search option is used, then a tally of matching hits is given:
References #
Note that References are only shown in context of a Browse operation and reflect See and See also directions. If full MARC21 Authority direction is used, then See references will reflect thesaurus direction, e.g. See narrower or broader term:
Additional options #
Two buttons can be found at lower right of the screen:
- This button allows a specific heading’s works be selected for closer examination. This will then select the heading into the Search for any Work tab (including any See or See also reference direction), and perform the search, listing all associated titles for the selected heading.
- This button allows export of the current Headings selection into Excel
