Aurora SIP2 Authentication method #
Authenticating with SIP2 is a common method of authenticating, with 3rd party services. Aurora SIP2 Server is software included with the Aurora LMS package. Running the SIP2 software requires a server or workstation license, however the EBOOKS workstation license can be used instead of a dedicated license.
- SIP2 connections that are authenticating from the outside are managed by AIT on our servers.
- There is the option to self-host a sip2 service and this is useful for internal service connections you may host.
Note Aurora also offers API authentication with certain suppliers such as:
- Bolinda
- MonitorBM
- Solus
- Hoopla
- Auslit
- Libraries Australia
API authentications offer a more modern and secure connection, which is the preferred method if available for AIT.
Requesting a Sip2 Service #
Email aitsupport@ait.com.au or submit a service desk request with the following information.
- State the purpose of the service and the provider who will connect to it.
- Decide whether the new service will be for just authentication or will perform transactions e.g. Loans/Returns/Charges/Reservations etc
- In case of more than just authentication Create (or re-assign) a dedicated workstation. Give AIT the workstation name.
- Our recommendation to create a dedicated Operator for this service. We can re-use an existing Operator Please provide the Operator name you prefer.
AIT will create the new service and allocate a unique TCP/IP port. We will send the details for the SIP2 connection
Creating a new operator for a sip2 service #
- Create a new dedicated operator in System Parameters Operators Tab in aurora desktop for each 3rd party product who will be authenticating the library members e.g. Bolinda, Overdrive, Freegal etc…
- Set security level of the operator to = 0
- Create a password for that new operator. For security this should be a strong password.
- Check System Parameters/Workstations to make sure EBOOKS is in the list of workstations. If it is not there you will need to add it.
That workstation can be used for all ebooks\audiobooks providers you have or will get in the future.
Provide the 3rd party provider with some dummy, valid and blocked accounts for their testing. - provide this information to AIT
Create a new Workstation for a sip2 service ( only for services that perform transactions e.g. Loans/Returns/Charges/Reservations etc) #
- Create a new dedicated operator in System Parameters Workstation Tab in aurora desktop for each 3rd party product who will perform transactions e.g. Loans/Returns/Charges/Reservations such as self-check machines.
- Set the default operator to be sip2 operator created for this service.
Information for the library’s IT department (self-hosted). #
- Please ask AIT to provide you with the latest Aurora SIP2 Server software and instruction on setup and configuration. You will need the server’s/workstation’s (where the software will run) public IP address.
The Aurora SIP2 software is a TCP/IP server running as a windows service and it will require a dedicated TCP/IP port e.g. 6### opened in the firewall. The software can also run in a console mode for setup and configuration as well as a monitoring device.
Ask the 3rd party provider to give you the public IP addresses that they will be connecting from so you can allow them to access the ports individually.
